License Renewals
Driver’s licenses must be renewed every 5 years (or more frequently depending on age, health and legal status).

Licensing Classes
There are seven types of driver’s licenses in Alberta which allows drivers to operate different types of vehicles under different conditions.
In some cases, a driver may have more than one class – for example, a taxi driver who has a motorcycle will need a Class 4, 6 driver’s license.

Driver Abstracts
A drivers abstract is a record of all your tickets (not including parking or multi-nova) and suspensions that have happened on your Alberta Permit only.

Graduated Licensing
The Graduated Licensing Program, better known as GDL is designed in 3 stages.
Ultimately, once passed all 3 stages, the driver should have their non-GDL 5 Class license.

Suspensions
If your license suspension has ended, you may want to consider reinstating it. In some cases, there are terms and conditions which apply before you can continue to drive again.
