Thinking of taking their name?

If you are looking to take your husband’s or wife’s name, you may have to submit a marriage certificate from Vital Statistics.

This certificate may be needed for bank accounts, credit cards, and driver’s licenses that proves you are married.

Requirements to Order a Marriage Certificate

You must meet some of the requirements below to be able to order a marriage certificate.

Steps to Get Your Marriage Certificate.

To receive your marriage certificate, you must:

  • Visit our office in Standard with personal identification.
  • Produce information regarding your marriage such as
    • date
    • place of marriage
    • names of bride and grooms
    • Receive your Vital Statistics.
  • It may take 1 – 3 days for your certificate to arrive.

Marriage Licenses

You must meet some of the requirements below to be able to order a marriage License:

  • Both parties must provide valid identification (two pieces)

  • Parties being married must apply together for their license

  • The Bride and Groom cannot be related:
    • Federal legislation prohibits people from marrying if they are related linearly or as brother and sister, whether by whole blood, half blood or by adoption.
    • Specifically: a woman may not marry her grandfather, father, grandson, son or brother. A man may not marry his grandmother, mother, granddaughter, daughter or sister.

  • If the marital status of either party before the marriage is divorced, copies of the final court documentation is required.

  • Applicants must be over 18.
    • If not over 18, they must receive consent.

When these requirements are met, you can then visit our office and we can then issue your license.
