Overview

Graduated Licensing

The Graduated Licensing Program, better known as GDL is designed in 3 stages.

Stage 1 – Class 7

Stage 2 – Class 5 Probationary License

Stage 3 – Class 5 License Non Probationary

Ultimately, once passed all 3 stages, the driver should have their non-GDL 5 Class license.

The Graduated Licensing Program is designed in 3 stages ensuring that drivers build the skills necessary to attain their Class 5 Non-Probationary License.

Stage 1 - Class 7 License

Your Class 7 License is the first license you will need to begin your life long driving journey.

The Class 7 License requires a written examination which we can conduct here at our office.

Stage 2 - Class 5 Probationary License (GDL)

Your Class 5 Probationary License will allow you to drive on your own and without supervision. You will have to conduct a driving test on real roads to get this license.

There are restrictions though on how late you can drive and you are also limited to a smaller number of demerit points than you would if you had your Class 5 Non-Probationary License.

Stage 3 - Class 5 Non-Probationary Licnese (Non-GDL)

Obtaining your Class 5 Non-Probationary License means you are fully licensed and have select perks as well.

In order to get your Class 5 Non-Probationary License, you will need to conduct the second part of your road test.

This section of the test is more advanced than the previous test.

Once completed, you are now a fully licensed driver, congratulations.

You need to be a minimum of 14 years old to write your test.

You need to be a minimum of 16 years old to have a road test conducted.

We do not conduct road tests here in Standard. We do however write examination tests.
